THE heatwave eased just in time at the weekend as fundraising walkers took to the Ochils above Alva and Tillicoultry.

The Rotary Club of Alloa hosted its Nebit Challenge on Sunday, June 18, with scores heading along to raise funds for causes close to their hearts.

Organisers gave thanks to all taking part and hailed a "remarkable event" which was not only a unique opportunity to celebrate Father's Day but also served as a fitting conclusion to Men's Health Week.

Among those taking part was eight-year-old Logan Gould from Sauchie who served as an inspiration for the nearly 190 participants on the day.

Everyone taking part was encouraged to raise funds for their preferred and worthy good causes with money netted for Sauchie Juniors, Alva Scout Group, the Dogs Trust, Christian Aid and more.

There were even groups coming from as far as Falkirk High School to raise funds and add to Duke of Edinburgh Award efforts.

Those taking part set off from the grounds of Hillfoots RFC and valiantly ascended 250 meters to the beacon on The Nebit, covering a round trip of around 8km.

Some took on the longer route all the way to the summit with an extended 10km round trip.

Volunteers from Ochils Mountain Rescue Team were on hand to provide assistance in case of emergencies.

There were plenty of marshals along the route to ensure the event ran smoothly with Rotarian Scott Doyle being the key man behind the operation.

Fellow member John Allan gave thanks to all taking part, those supporting the event and all the sponsors of the challenge.

He said: "The Rotary Club of Alloa would like to express gratitude to the generous sponsors and organisations who have played a crucial role in making this event possible.

"Special thanks go to Morrisons Alloa, Hillfoots Rugby Club, Ochils Mountain Rescue Team, as well as the friends and family members of our dedicated Rotary Club."

Looking ahead, the club will be organising a cycle ride around the Wee County on Sunday, September 17, setting off from Alloa Railway Station.
