GALA cheer spread to Tillicoultry last weekend as the town hosted its annual celebration on Sunday, June 18.

The procession kicked off from Murray Square, proceeding through the town before setting down at Tillicoultry Public Park.

Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band led the procession, followed by the royal carriage which contained Jonathan Rodger and Lily Dewar, the gala king and queen.

They were joined by Lottie Hunter and Oliver Terrance, who filled in the roles of flower girl and page boy, respectively.

The fair contained a whole host of fun for all the family to enjoy, including races and games, inflatables, food and refreshments, bands and much more.

Throughout the day, kids got to enjoy a range of games and competitions which included a sack race, tug of war, javelin and caber toss. A football competition was also held for children to enter.

Entertainment was provided each hour from 1.45pm by Clackmannan District Brass Band, who performed some music as the gala came to a close.

Ronnie Beveridge, who sits on Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside Community Council, said he was keen for it to be a very intergenerational event and was delighted to report that everyone who attended enjoyed the event.

He said: “The pipe band led the procession and then played at the opening ceremony for a wee spell which was lovely.

“All of our stalls did really well, we had entertainment for the kids which they all really enjoyed throughout the day.

“I had a shot at the coconut game which I’ve never done in my life, I managed to knock a coconut down so I was quite happy!

“It was a really good day – I wandered around all afternoon to make sure everything was okay and that everyone was enjoying themselves, which they were.”
