THERE was a great turnout from the community as people gathered for Picnic in the Park in Clackmannan.

The town's community council hosted the event at Alexander Park on Saturday, June 24, as fundraising continues to upgrade the equipment and surroundings at the outdoor space.

With the rain staying off, families grabbed their blankets and packed some snacks to turn out on the day in numbers.

There was plenty of fun with a dog show, beat the goalie, various games, face painting, a shack snack for the young people and more.

Those heading along also had the chance to learn the latest information about the ongoing effort to upgrade the park, happenings in the town with Clackmannan Development Trust and much more on hand.

Just under £900 was raised and the cogs are already in motion to upgrade park equipment and to put in place fencing, explained Clackmannan Community Council's Helen White.

Speaking to the Advertiser, she said: “It was a very-very good afternoon.

“There was quite the turnout and we raised just short of £900.

“It was good to see so many people turning out, not just people from Clackmannan – it was quite encouraging to see everyone.”

Outdoor gym equipment has already been put in place by the community council, which is working with the local authority to give the park a new lease of life.

There was plenty of entertainment on the day as well with Scatoosh, the singers from Sauchie Community Group, joining in the fun.

Helen added: “A big thank you to everybody that came along and supported the community council – it's very encouraging.”

Next for the community council will be a fundraising bingo tea, which is always popular, in September.
