A FORMER Wee County motorcycle mechanic has released his next book, with film producers already looking to snap up the idea and take it to Hollywood.

John Glass, formerly of Glass and Steele M/C Ltd, has written Memory Gene, a story about an archaeologist who comes across a piece of pottery, leading him on a journey to track down the rest of the pieces and learn more about himself in the process.

The Alloa man came up with the idea for the book by pondering what would happen if people inherited memories from their parents the same way they inherit physical genes.

Speaking to the Advertiser, John said he was looking forward to the release of his book and hopes to secure a movie deal.

"I'm quite excited for it. I got word back from publishers that they liked my story and put it forward to their movies agent.

"I'd be quite chuffed if it got that far – I'm quite excited about the prospect.

"I hope that when people buy it, they'll enjoy the story. That's the most important thing to me.

"It's a cross between The Da Vinci Code and Indiana Jones, that's how I like to think of it. It's all about if you believe in déjà vu."

As part of the promotion of Memory Gene, John will be launching his book in the Speirs Centre on July 20 at 2.30pm.

John is also in the process of organising a day in Tillicoultry library and another in Stirling, with the date of these yet to be decided.
