A STUDENT has taken up a paid internship to support the work of Dollar Community Development Trust.

Nadine Allardice, 17, is being mentored by Yvonne Alexander, development manager at the trust, as part of the Career Ready initiative.

The sixth year student, from Stirling, is supporting the trust with admin tasks at The Hive and research for upcoming projects.

Her mentor Yvonne told the Advertiser: “She's already been a good help to me, just little jobs we've not managed to get around to.

“She's been able to do it really well – she's very smart, seems very polite and it's quite nice to work with her.

“It's a good experience for me and I hope it's a good experience for her too.”

Career Ready was founded in 2002 by leading business figures to boost social mobility by empowering young people and giving their talents a platform to flourish.

The programme has grown across the UK and reached 200,000 young people, including supporting 30,000 on their high-impact, Career Ready post-16 programme.

The idea is to unlock the talents of young people while giving them valuable work experience.

Yvonne added: “It's great for us to be able to nurture young talent, nurture skills in young people and dedicate time to show people the ropes.

“It's a good opportunity because the trust is all about community and working together as a community.

“So, if we can lead the way, be part of the future, be part of young people's lives and show them particular skill sets then hopefully it's a job well done on our part as well.”

After the summer, Dollar Community Development Trust will be looking forward to a number of events.

The beer festival, which has proven popular since first going ahead in 2019, will be taking place in October.

The annual fireworks will go ahead in November while there will be plenty in store for the Winter Festival in December.
