A CAFE dedicated to supporting Ukraine will be open twice a week throughout what will be a crucial month for the war-torn country.

Café Ukraine in Dollar, which has previously hosted events while collecting donations, will be open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11am to 4pm.

Plans are also being made for a special event and related celebrations for Ukraine's National Independence Day on Thursday, August 24.

The cafe, at 12 Bridge Street, is also selling full size and dwarf sunflower plants, the national flower of Ukraine.

There is more with mini flags, solidarity bracelets and more while plans are also being made for a mini bookshop with volumes on Ukrainian history.

As previously reported, the café has been running its Wellies for Ukraine appeal after the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam.

The boots, and other essentials such as sleeping bags and camping gear, will be leaving for Ukraine this week.

More is always welcome with the café working as a drop off point and partnering with Tayside and Strathearn for Ukraine (TASH) based in Errol just outside Dundee, the main distribution point in Scotland for aid to Ukraine.

Alan Smart, who has been running the café from his home, said: "At the moment the military situation in Ukraine is crucial.

"It's a vital month of the war in Ukraine and we are wanting to make sure that is matched by as much solidarity work as we can do."

Speaking of the past months of the initiative, he added: "We've been getting great support, the people have been brilliant here, so generous."
