A WEE COUNTY community group has received a certificate of recognition at a climate awards evening.

Alloa in Bloom, situated in the heart of Clacks, received the accolade at the event, hosted by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.

The annual celebration was held in person for the first time since 2019 and took place at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh on Friday, September 8.

The Clacks group was taking part in the non-judged category and was one of 45 groups from all over Scotland honoured with awards and certificates of recognition.

Diane Brown, chair of Alloa First, said Alloa in Bloom were delighted to be recognised for their efforts, particularly during a difficult period in their history.

She said: “We very sadly lost one of our volunteers which really took the group by surprise and that unsettled us a wee bit at a bad time.

“We felt that it was better to take a step back this year and continue with the planters and the hanging baskets, but not give ourselves the pressure of having to enter the awards.

“We withdrew from the main competition but it has been lovely and a great boost to the group that we have been recognised for the certificate of recognition.

“We’re absolutely delighted to receive this recognition this year and look forward to working to enter the competition fully in the future.”

Alloa in Bloom has been responsible for improving the general outlook of the town centre, putting new planters and hanging baskets in the area.

Juliette Camburn, senior officer with community initiatives at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “I’d like to wish a huge congratulations to Alloa in Bloom who were honoured at this year’s Beautiful Scotland awards night.

“Being together in person to celebrate the collective efforts to improve our local communities, after such a long absence, has been fantastic.

“The efforts of our groups, and all involved in their communities, is truly inspiring, ensuring their local areas are not only protected but improved for future generations.

“Every group thoroughly deserves their awards and recognition, and their collective effort is immensely appreciated.”
