A MAN threatened to stab himself in the throat during a stand-off with police in Tullibody.

The incident was caused by 35-year-old Barry McCutcheon, of Ochil Street, Tullibody, who has appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on 13th July at Alloa Road, Tullibody, he shouted, swore, acted aggressively, refused to leave the property, made threats of violence and brandished a knife.

Depute fiscal Rachel Wallace said McCutcheon's partner had called the police to say she wanted him removed from her home.

When officers arrived, McCutcheon began shouting at them and threatened to self-harm if they entered.

He was then seen at an upstairs window with a knife which he was holding against his throat saying he would stab himself.

He was repeatedly shouting "f*** off" with firearms officers and a negotiator called in before he eventually gave himself up.

Defence solicitor Kelly Howe said her client recalls little of the incident having been under the influence of alcohol and substances at the time.

She added he was currently living with his mother but hopes to reconcile with his partner.

Sheriff Neil Bowie deferred sentence until October 19 for McCutcheon to be assessed for the Caledonian Programme for domestic offenders.
