A TEAM from Clackmannanshire Council has raised more than £1,400 so far for Aberlour Children's Charity through this month's Kiltwalk.

And Provost Donald Balsillie was there to cheer them over the line after a marathon effort from all involved.

Lorraine Sanda, strategic director at the council, said: “We were all wearing our blue Aberlour t-shirts, some with tartan leggings, or kilt or skirts.

"We had a lovely walk and the weather was great.

"There was a real atmosphere with the pipe band seeing us off and lots of encouragement along the way. We had family and friends to see us off and meet us at the end.

“It created a real sense of teamwork with those who took part, and we had time along the way just to chat and get to know some colleagues who we didn't know too well.

"It was a great day, and we are planning again for next year.”

The team chose Aberlour Children's Charity for the support they give and the positive impact they have on the lives of children and young people in the local area.

Lorraine added: “The People Directorate and the Family Wellbeing Partnership are very focused on getting the best possible outcomes for children and young people and their families.

"As part of the work that we are doing on the promise to our care-experienced community, we are doing everything we can to ensure that children and young people grow up loved, safe and respected in Clackmannanshire.

“Aberlour is one of our key partners in this process and we decided that we would raise funds for them [to] support the work we are doing in Clackmannanshire on the promise.

"We would want in the future to raise more funds for organisations that help us to keep the promise.”

Lorraine and the team were keen to keep it local, and said: “We planned it quite a while ago as we had hoped at some stage, we may be able to have a local kiltwalk.

"Given that this looked unlikely, we thought the second best would be to join the Edinburgh walk.”

Nineteen workers from the local authority took part in the event earlier this month.

Lorraine continued: “It was staff from People Directorate who joined in as we are the area of the council that supports children's services and education.

"We weren't sure how many folk would want to take part but we were delighted with the response and we also had the leader of the council and the spokesperson for social services who joined us.
