A new cafe has opened up in Alloa, aiming to give premium coffee drinkers a 'cup of Joe' they won’t soon forget.

Bees on The Primrose, located on 32 Primrose Street, opened at the close of last year, with big plans to expand their business in the new year.

The shop is managed by Lesley MacArthur and her partner Douglas Downs, who hope to bring their love of coffee to the Wee County.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Douglas explained his and his partner’s love for coffee drove them to open their own business.

“We’re aiming to appeal to the more discernible coffee drinker,” he said. “We started driving round to different cafes to find the best coffee.

“We’re selling more of a premium coffee, it’s been roasted in a way that makes it feel like it isn’t a chore to drink.

“Our rule of thumb is: if you’re going to drink coffee, drink the best coffee. It’s more of a hobby for us than an actual business.”

Bees on The Primrose is open now on Saturdays between 9.30am-2pm only but plan to extend their opening hours through the week later in the year.

Frequent customers can take advantage of a loyalty card offered by the shop, collecting 9 stamps to get a free coffee.

Douglas added: “We’re hoping to get word of mouth out there and work with local charities as well.

“We want to integrate ourselves into the community, Lesley and I are big fans of Alloa and we’re looking forward to welcoming people in to the shop.”
