A WOMAN has been arrested in connection with an incident that left a pensioner hospitalised after a dog attack.

Isobel Boyd, 77, was attacked by a dog, locally reported to be an XL Bully, although this has not been officially confirmed, on Wednesday, December 20.

The dog grabbed hold of her arm and tore it, leaving Isobel requiring two operations including a skin graft.

Following the incident, Police Scotland confirmed that the dog had since been put down, with a 46-year-old woman reported in connection.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 9.30am on Wednesday, December 20, we were called to a report of a 77-year-old woman having been injured by a dog on Dovecot Road, Tullibody, Alloa.

“Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

“A 46-year-old woman was reported to the Procurator Fiscal. The dog has been euthanised.”

Isobel, from Tullibody, was rushed to hospital for treatment, undergoing two operations to repair her arm.

Her knee was also fractured in the incident, which saw the animal pull her to the ground.

She spent 11 days recovering in hospital, spending the full Christmas period receiving care.

Speaking to STV after her recovery, Isobel spoke of the horrific ordeal, stating something must be done to ensure this doesn't happen again.

“It was like a horror,” she told STV. “I had to let it keep my arm because if it got to my throat, I’d be a goner.

“Something has to be done because we don’t want what I’ve been through to happen to anyone else.”

A ban on XL Bullies has been brought into place in England and Wales. There is currently no ban in Scotland but First Minister Humza Yousaf has stated that the Scottish Government will "in essence replicate" the law down south banning XL bully dogs without a licence.
