STIRLING ALBION have condemned the behaviour of younger fans during their match against Alloa, which has left the pitch at the Indodrill damaged.

The Binos visited Alloa for the crucial derby day, with both teams chasing a playoff spot, on Saturday, February 10.

As the game was set to begin, several red flares were thrown onto the artificial pitch from behind Blair Currie’s goal.

The stewarding team at Alloa worked quickly to remove them from the pitch, however it has been confirmed that the flares have left scorch marks on the turf.

Stirling released a statement on Sunday, condemning the behaviour and insisting they will be working hard to identify those responsible.

It said: “We’re disappointed, yet again, that the younger element who purport to support the team have behaved in a way that damages the club both reputationally and financially.

“Yesterday’s incident, where flares were thrown onto the pitch at Alloa, will see the club being presented with a substantial bill for repairs.

“Staff and volunteers at the club work long hours to generate enough income for Darren [Young] to put together a team that we can not only be proud of, but that can cement our place in League 1 this season and, we hope, progress further in the coming years.

“As a part-time club, we simply cannot afford to be throwing away money that comes from sponsors, season ticket holders and paying fans to accommodate a small bunch of supposed fans who are unable to behave, clearly have no allegiance to the team and show no interest in how we are trying to grow and develop as a club.

“We would ask all decent fans to help us identify the culprits so that we can try to put an end to what is becoming both an annoyance for ordinary fans and a financial drain on the club.

“Once we have identified the people responsible, we will not hesitate to ban them from our stadium.

“We would remind all fans that it is a criminal offence to possess fireworks and flares in a football stadium in Scotland and we will report any such offences to Police Scotland for further action.”

Alloa won the derby clash, a goal from Taylor Steven being the decider. The sides will meet one last time this season at Forthbank in April.
