AN ALLOA care service providing support and in-home treatment to people across the generations has received a top class report from the Care Inspectorate.

IKL Care, located at 1-3 Coalgate, received an unannounced visit from inspectors recently, with the report published this week.

The care home provides service users and carers with the ability to be completely involved in their own care plan, irrespective of their age.

Inspectors assessed the care at home service on two key areas – wellbeing and leadership. To evaluate quality, the report used to a 6-point scale to grade IKL on those areas, where 1 is unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent.

IKL scored very highly on this scale, receiving grade 5 (very good) on both areas, with inspectors praising the relationships between staff and users.

For wellbeing, the report states: “People knew their support staff well and staff were fully aware of people’s preferences, choices and wishes.

“The rota with staff photographs was sent to people every week to let them know in advance who to expect and this meant that people felt safe and secure within their service delivery.

“The service recognised people as experts in their own care and support and this meant they were fully involved in care evaluations, reviews and decisions about their support that affected them.

“Staff had good links with families and because they knew people well, were able to identify when there were any changes to health needs and therefore could act quickly to alert relatives or health professionals when necessary.”

Under leadership, the report singled out the management team, praising them for how well service users knew the team.

Inspectors also stated that service users were more than happy to provide feedback, giving them confidence that issues would be addressed immediately.

Inspectors spoke with people who used the service, one of whom said: “All of the staff really care,” while another added: “The staff have a personal touch and I feel supported by them.”

Kim Matchett, owner of IKL, said: “We are delighted to announce that, following a recent unannounced inspection, we have once again been awarded the grades of 5.

"We're so proud of our management team and our support workers, in particular this last year as it's been our most difficult year facing staff shortages.

"Our team has really stepped up and has been fantastic. We're delighted to have been able to continue to keep our high grades."
