A TILLICOULTRY 19-year-old was left speechless after being named Student of the Year at Forth Valley College.
Claire Snodin scooped the accolade as Forth Valley Student Association (FVSA) celebrated achievements across the college at an awards ceremony.
The Student Awards was held at the college’s Falkirk campus with Donald Erskine, piper at Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band, starting off the evening.
Claire, an HND visual communication student from Tilly, said after receiving the award: “I am speechless. I was surprised to have been nominated at all, but am very proud to have won.
“Thank you to everyone who voted for me.”
Claire, along with other winners, was presented with an engraved glass award and a certificate.
Photographer and lecturer Fiona Read, also from the Wee County, was named Academic Staff of the Year after being voted for by students.
On social media, she said: “Beyond grateful. What an amazing bunch of creative, talented and thoughtful humans I get to work with every day.
“A massive well done to all nominees and winners, and thank you to FVSA for organising a fabulous evening!”
Representatives from event sponsors Onefile, SP Energy Networks, The Talking Rooms, Forth Valley Chamber of Commerce and Investors In People, as well as FVSA executive officers and in-coming Student President Elena Strachan were also special guests on the night.
The Wee County’s very own Delta Blues musician Iain Donald, stage name Gator, also played at the event, being a graphic design student at the college.

Current students in sound production, hospitality and events management courses were on hand as well to make sure the evening went ahead smoothly.
Kaisa Slapek, student engagement officer at the college, said: “I'm delighted to extend my congratulations to all the winners and runners-up of this year's Student Awards.
“Each of them has demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication and we are proud to celebrate all achievements.
“Thanks to all staff members and students for their unwavering support, patience and dedication throughout the entire process. Your contributions were essential in making this event a resounding success.”
She also gave a nod of appreciation to sponsors as well as all the students who took the time to vote for nominees in the staff award categories.
