A MAN was headbutted and knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack in Alloa.

The assailant was Calum Brand, 25, of Hallpark, Sauchie, who managed to avoid a jail sentence when he appeared in the dock at Alloa Sheriff Court.

Brand admitted that on February 24 last year at Drysdale Street, he assaulted a man, struck him on the head with his head, repeatedly punched him on the head, pushed him causing him to fall to the ground.

Then he repeatedly punched him on the head to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

The court was told the incident took place at 9.30pm when the victim, who was intoxicated, was having a conversation with another person.

Brand walked past the pair but then turned back and attacked the victim, striking him with numerous punches after the initial blow.

He pursued the man who fell to the ground and was struck when lying there, becoming unconscious and sustaining cuts which later required to be stitched.
