Are you an ambitious, digitally skilled aspiring journalist with a passion for local news? Newsquest Scotland is looking for a trainee reporter to join our busy newsroom in Dunfermline.
Since 1859, the Dunfermline Press has set the news agenda in West Fife. This is an exciting opportunity to work on our flagship Fife title while contributing to the Central Fife Times and Alloa Advertiser.
You will uncover breaking news and feature stories, champion local communities, cover crime, business, food and drink, entertainment, and hold those in power to account. You will also use social media to spot stories, build contacts and connect with the communities we serve.
You should have:
NCTJ preliminary qualifications and 100wpm shorthand, ideally.
A driving licence and access to a car.
Strong knowledge of media law and exceptional attention to detail.
The ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
A flexible writing style, from live blogs and listicles to long-form features.
Video, image, audio, social-media and SEO skills.
Excellent people skills, organisation and a collaborative approach.
An interest in using AI tools to improve newsroom efficiency and output.
Applicants with a journalism degree that is not NCTJ-accredited can receive additional training to become fully NCTJ qualified. The permanent, full-time post is based in Dunfermline, with a closing date of 20 August 2026.
