THERE are going to be more wheels on Clacks' roads for longer as the council expands its Wee County Bus.

In July, the local authority's service, operated by Hunters Executive Coaches Ltd, was launched.

It boasted a "kerb to kerb" service across the region, as well as a Coalsnaughton-to-Fishcross shuttle as a pilot service.

The purpose was to reconnect the village to the wider public transport network following the closure of The Glen, near where recent ground movement has occurred.

Now, the council say, their Wee County Bus scheme has received additional funding from SEStran to provide an improved shuttle service for Coalsnaughton until at least the end of March 2027.

It will be welcome news for many in the area who have been moved out of their homes and are now living in accommodation as far away as Stirling.

Councillor Scott Harrison welcomed this additional support, which was put in place after his discussions with Transport Scotland and SEStran.

He said: “I am delighted this extra funding has been secured for the benefit of the Coalsnaughton residents who are still coping with major disruption in their village due to the ongoing incident.

“The Wee County Bus service itself gives added transport flexibility for our communities through improved timetables, lower fares and service expansion.

“We will continue to listen to passengers to ensure the Wee County Bus continues to develop in the right way. Our aim is to provide a flexible and accessible public transport solution to support all our residents.”

The council also says that from Monday, September 7, the Wee County Bus will include a Demand Responsive Transport offering.

This service will connect Muckhart with Dollar and Tillicoultry, with further expansion to communities such as Forestmill planned for later in 2026.

For all routes, the NEC cards will be accepted, and the bus is wheelchair accessible; there is no need to book the service.
