Almost 60 people have died with coronavirus (Covid-19) in Forth Valley.

According to latest figures from the National Records of Scotland (NRS), 59 deaths linked to the virus were recorded in the area as of Sunday, April 12.

The previous Sunday (April 5), a total of 27 deaths had been linked to the virus in the area – therefore the number of deaths has increased by 32 within that one-week period.

NRS’ report also shows that in Scotland, as of April 12, a total of 962 deaths linked to coronavirus were recorded across Scotland.

Of those 962 deaths, 596 occurred in hospitals, 237 occurred in care homes, and 129 occurred within an individual’s home or other institution.

The number of deaths involving Covid-19 mentioned in the National Records of Scotland report is different from the number of deaths published daily on the Scottish Government website.

This is because the latter is based on deaths of those who have tested positive for Covid-19, whereas the report’s figures include all deaths where Covid-19 (included suspected cases) was mentioned on the death certificate.
