ALMOST 100 deaths have been linked to coronavirus in Forth Valley.

Figures published by the National Records of Scotland (NRS) show that 90 deaths involving the virus had been recorded in the area as of April 19.

The previous week, the number of deaths linked to Covid-19 in Forth Valley stood at 59 (as of April 12), and at 27 the week before that (April 5).

NRS figures also show that in Scotland overall, 1,616 deaths involving the virus have been recorded (as of April 19).

More than half of those deaths (56 per cent) occurred in hospitals, with the others occurring in care homes (33 per cent) and homes or other institutions (10 per cent).

That equates to 910 deaths in hospitals, 537 deaths in care homes, and 169 deaths at home or other institutions.

The NRS report also said: “Almost three quarters of all deaths involving Covid-19 to date were of people aged 75 or over.”

And more than half of deaths linked to Covid-19 (55 per cent) were male, and the rest (45 per cent) were female.

The number of deaths involving Covid-19 mentioned in the NRS report is different from the number of deaths published daily on the Scottish Government website.

This is because the latter is based on deaths of those who have tested positive for Covid-19, whereas the report’s figures include all deaths where Covid-19 (included suspected cases) was mentioned on the death certificate.
