STIRLING residents are invited to the PEAK to show support for community swimming during this year’s Big Swim Day.

The national campaign takes place on Friday, February 24 and aims to demonstrate the level of local public support for swimming pools and other public leisure and cultural facilities.

The initiative is particularly prevalent during a time when the government has scaled back financial support for pools across the country, placing many of them at risk of closure.

Andrew Bain, chief executive of Active Stirling, said: “Big Swim Day is the ideal opportunity for local people to show support for local community pools, facing unprecedented financial challenges, and while doing so to have a great time and build mental health and physical wellbeing.

“There’s no need to make special arrangements – just come along on the day.”

“As well as running our learn to swim programme as usual on the day, we hope that our regular swimmers will make an additional visit this Friday.

“We also hope that many of the community who perhaps haven’t been for a while but will make a special visit as they know the important part public leisure plays in the life of the community.”

Latest swim times can be found on the Active Stirling website. It is recommended you book before visiting via the Active Stirling app.
