A DELEGATION from the Danish municipality of Billund has paid a trip to Stirling as part of a three-day visit to the UK.

A number of Danish officials, including the Mayor of Billund Stephanie Storbank, visited the city and sampled some of the many tourist attractions on display.

The delegation received a tour of the Wallace Monument, Transition Stirling’s Re-Use Hub at Springkerse and Codebase Stirling.

Billund is famously known as the home of LEGO but is hoping to raise awareness of the town beyond the world-famous theme park.

The delegation was met by Stirling Council Leader councillor Chris Kane, Provost Douglas Dodds, Stirling Council executive Carol Beattie and chief officer for infrastructure and environment, Brian Roberts.

Speaking of the visit, Cllr Kane said: “We were honoured to welcome the delegation from Billund and take them on a tour of locations that show Stirling at its best and how the area is achieving sustainable growth.

“Billund has obvious similarities with Stirling’s tourism economy, and the visit focused on strategies for creating wealth and wellbeing across a variety of sectors, building on the strong foundations enjoyed by both regions.

“It was a really beneficial learning experience and hopefully, we can continue to collaborate with Billund, sharing ideas and experiences to help grow our economies and create greater prosperity in support of our net zero aims.”

The delegation exchanged gifts with the council representatives at a short civic ceremony before the group’s departure from Stirling.
