RACHEL JACK will follow up on her debut EP with her next release later this month.

The singer-songwriter will unveil her new single Magazine Girls on Friday, October 9, which is the first track to be taken from her upcoming sophomore EP of the same name.

It marks a significant departure from the acoustic folk style of The Calgary Tapes as the Aberdeen singer moves into a new genre.

The track takes aim at the harmful pursuit of beauty that is perpetuated in the fashion industry and throughout celebrity culture, as well as the psychological impact it can have on young women.

Jack said: "Throughout my late teens/early 20s, I was painfully insecure to the point that I'd spend hours getting ready only to decide not to leave the house.

"I hated the way I looked, and I wanted to change everything about myself.

"Magazine Girls is about realising that I could never look like those girls in beauty magazines because on a normal day, they don't even look like that."

Magazine Girls is a collaborative offering, combining Jack's enlisting the production mastery of award-winning producer Dunt.

The singer and Dunt, producer of Stanley Odd, SHEARS and Solareye, met while studying music at University West of Scotland, where Jack was awarded a one-year songwriting scholarship from Paolo Nutini.

The single artwork has been illustrated by Edinburgh artist Sarah Kwan and the release will be accompanied by a music video, as well as infographics from the International Magazine Centre to highlight the key stats around female representation in magazines.
