WHITE NOVELS are aiming to hit the ground running in 2021, with their debut single primed for release.

The quintet turned a few heads recently as they appeared on Sam's Night – a hugely successful fundraising stream – alongside Shambolics, Retro Video Club and Jack Cochrane from The Snuts.

Their track California will be released on January 15, and the band are hopeful of playing their first show in Edinburgh in September.

The band is made up of singer and guitarist Jack Bestow, Tam Kane on the keyboard and vocals, Bethany Anderson on bass and vocals, along with drummer Chris Roarty and guitarist Paul Mills.

Though still a relative unknown, singer Jack gives us a little introduction to the band.

White Novels come from... Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Motherwell...all over Scotland! There is a lot of travelling involved, but it's worth it; we all love playing in this band, and it's a lovely thing to be a part of.

White Novels sound like... If Adele listened to Del Amitri and Keane and played in a rock band. We have so many influences and idols within music. I'm a massive fan of Keane, Travis, Del Amitri and many other 90s/00s rock and indie bands. Everyone listens to a wide variety of music which I feel has really helped gel us together as a group. Even with the new songs and plans going forward it's helped us to be really creative and, also, I feel it's helped me to develop in my songwriting.

White Novels like to be compared to... George Michael, The Backstreet Boys, S Club 7 and The Village People – all of my best guilty pleasures. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a massive fan of Wham! and George Michael. When clubs reopen you'll find me in karaoke bars doing a cover of Fastlove or Everything She Wants.

White Novels don't like to be compared to... This is a hard one. I'm not too sure, really. I wouldn't want to put anyone down, but I'm not a fan of tracks from the musical "Hamilton" which has created some controversy in the band. Tam is a massive fan of this and has tried to catch me out a few times like: "Oh, do you like this tune", without telling me where it's from.

The proudest moment for White Novels so far is... Playing Sam's Night for sure. This was an incredible thing to be a part of, and helping to raise over £14,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust alongside the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Retro Video Club and Dictator was really rewarding. It was really special to be a part of, and was the birth of taking this from a bedroom lockdown solo project to a full band. The reaction after that, and the kind of buzz that came with it, was genuinely what helped kickstart this.

The next time you hear White Novels it will be... Most likely our next single California, which is due to be released in early February. We could have a few surprises up our sleeves...you never know. We're really excited about this single too and have a really good team behind us to help us with it. Make sure when it's out to stream it and play it loud. Even shout: "Alexa, play White Novels - California. Volume 10!"

Next year, White Novels will... Release our first full band single and play our first gig with people there. We announced our first show at Sneaky Pete's on September 4 and the hype for it has been phenomenal. We're looking forward to being back at gigs both attending and playing.

The most important thing about White Novels is... The sense of community. Just enjoying the music and friendship really. Despite current circumstances I feel that we've all became really close despite having only met one another in October. It's the first time I feel I'm really writing music I both love writing and enjoy playing. Also the people who support us in any way whatsoever. Whether that's streaming our music, buying gig tickets, buying merch, donating to Crowdfunder, it all really helps us do the thing we love.
