A DEBUT EP can be tricky - a debut album is always difficult. But kicking off with a debut double-album is surely unheard of.

There is always one band that stands to break the mould and The Musicians of Bremen are aiming to do so in 2021.

The alt-rock trio are not ones to follow conventional paths and their ambition knows no bounds for the time being.

They kicked off the year with the release of their first album Intolerance, but it is just the first half of their plan.

The Musicians of Bremen will be back in the near future with part two in the form of Resilience, with the band hopeful of a physical release of the double album as well.

The band's drummer David said: "We had been ready years ago to record an album, but then various personal events happened that delayed the process.

"We actually never stopped writing over that period so when we were finally ready we had amassed all these songs that we struggled to narrow down to 14, or whatever, so we made a decision to record enough songs for a double-album but divide it over two releases so as not to overwhelm people."

And so, the band recorded no less than 22 songs in their initial sessions with Andy Miller (Mogwai, Sons and Daughters, De Rosa, Arab Strap) at his Gargleblast Studios in Hamilton. They then settled on 18 to release in the form of Intolerance and Resilience.

The albums' tracks delve into themes such as corporate and political manipulation, the flaws and fragility of the male psyche and the vulnerability of our populations to inevitable mass disease.

Guitarist and vocalist Fergus adds: "It's generally centred around the social pressures that we all experience every day - the manipulation and oppression normal people kind of unwittingly endure and actually perpetuate.

"I've never been one for writing much about my own personal experiences or emotions so I'd far prefer to try and highlight issues I've realised myself that people may be able to relate to in a different way."
