SONGWRITER Anton O'Donnell will release a new EP through a lockdown-inspired collaboration.

Known for fronting the Americana act Anton & the Colts, the singer is preparing to release new material under the name Anton O'Donnell & The Clydes.

The lockdown-inspired project took hold as O'Donnell recruited musicians from Glasgow and some from California, including Jefferson Starship's Phil Bennett.

Covid restrictions had been in full effect at the time and so the tracks were recorded at home before being finished in the studio a little later on.

The first tune to be released, on Friday, April 16, is the title track from the EP: Where Art Thou April?

“The song’s all about songwriting really; about being some wee detective type character on the hunt for that elusive, perfect melody/song.

O'Donnell said: "I wrote Where Art Thou April back in January, shortly after I finished reading Pulp by Charles Bukowski, but I really got the idea for the song/EP at the tail end of last year when I appeared on Martha Healy’s Max Country radio show.

"We were chatting about lockdown and songwriting, and I had mentioned that in April, during the first lockdown, I got this crazy burst of creativity where everything just fit, and songs were kinda writing themselves.

"That wee moment came and went, and I was saying to Martha that I had been looking to get back to April ever since.”

While the single is out this week, the EP will be released on Friday, April 30.
