ANGELICA MODE returns this week with new track Don’t Make Me Wait.

The single is the latest release from the project, headed by singer-songwriter Brian Hughes.

Previously of Screamin’ Whisper, the Dunfermline man began releasing solo work as Angelica Mode shortly after lockdown last year.

It proved to be an opportunity to probe new musical directions and has garnered some success with debut track Your Love is All the Rage racking up thousands of streams.

Hughes follows up with Don’t Make Me Wait, going back to the very earliest days of the project.

He tells The Weekender: “Despite not being the first single I’ve released as Angelica Mode, it was the first thing I recorded last year that set the direction for what I would be doing.

“It has more electronic elements than my previous work, which is really something that excites me.

“I suppose, in hindsight, that it’s about not wanting to wait on other people to move forward after Screamin’ Whisper broke up.

“It was also a bit of a testing ground for what kind of sound I would look for with Angelica Mode, so I had a blank slate to experiment. It was very liberating.”

Hughes adds: “I really would just want people to like it, and to grab people’s interest for what I’m doing.

“The song has already made it to the semi-final of the International Songwriting Competition, which is why it’s getting a single release now, and it’s been a real validation.

“I’d also like people to walk away hoping to see me live later in the year, which is something I’m eager to get back to.

“I’m booking an actual in person show for October, which I can only hope goes ahead.”

In the meantime, Angelica Mode will play the YouBloom virtual world tour in May.

The show will be broadcast in Calgary, Canada, on May 20; Boise, USA, on May 21; and Coventry, England, on May 22, at 7pm local time each day.

Tickets are on sale from the YouBloom site.

Don’t Make Me Wait will be released on Friday, April 30.
