BILLY MITCHELL has vowed to release new music ahead of his three-date tour in December.

The singer announced he will play shows in Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow this coming winter, after more than a year since his last gig.

He will play The Hunter S Thompson on Thursday, December 16, before heading to The Tunnels in Aberdeen the following night.

He has also announced a show for King Tut's in Glasgow on Thursday, December 23.

The pandemic may have robbed the Dundee man of the chance to take 2020 by storm, but he is determined to make up for lost time.

He released Know You Better almost exactly one year ago, which had been his first release in two years. At the time he was hoping to get back in the studio to get more songs released; however, things did not quite to plan.

Restrictions are set to ease over the coming weeks, with more and more artists booking shows across the country. For Mitchell a return to the stage will prove to be a tonic for the soul, following a horrendous past year.

"Expect some banging tunes, old and new. And I'll still be bringing the mediocre patter and terrible dance moves!"

The singer tells The Weekender: "2020 was one of the worst years of my life to be fair. Sadly, I lost my gran on my birthday – a brutal start to the year.

"Musically, it was up and down as I had just headlined King Tuts and supported Tom Walker so things were looking great…then, boom, lockdown.

"I've been keeping positive, though, and getting the head down writing new songs and prepping for December."

He adds: "I was a bit worried about booking shows previously due to the fact that no one knew what was going to happen. Since then, there seems to be some sort of plan in action to open up venues again. So, it was time to get some shows announced.

"It has been such a motivational lift and I'm so excited and relieved to see light at the end of this musky tunnel."

Mitchell is hoping to snag a few festival slots over the summer, though the picture for large outdoor gatherings still remains unclear.

Either way, he plans to remain busy until the shows in December with a promise of new material before then.

"I am 100% releasing new music in the lead up to these shows," he vows.

"The new songs are really strong. I wouldn't say they will be a specific 'new sound' or genre, but they are bangers that I'm sure everyone will enjoy. I've gotta keep that crowd entertained, ken?"

When asked what the audiences will be treated to at the December shows, he adds: "Expect some banging tunes, old and new. And I'll still be bringing the mediocre patter and terrible dance moves!"
