Alloa skipper Ben Gordon insists they are not hitting the panic button yet despite a luckless recent run in the SPFL Championship.

The big defender admits everyone at the club has been left scratching their heads as to how they haven’t picked up more points in the last few games despite some excellent displays.

The Wasps have been playing well without reward and so the former Dumbarton defender believes a scrappy win might just be the perfect remedy for them.

Gordon told Advertiser sport: “I feel like I have been consistent this season and with the team as a whole I don’t think there has been many times where we have been totally overwhelmed or outplayed. Although the league table doesn’t look good, I feel that we have done better than our position suggests and we are certainly not panicking.

“We feel like we have enough in our squad to take us up the table and out of the relegation zone. If we can start taking our chances then I think things will change very quickly.

“I think a scrappy win might just be the solution for us that we need to kick us on at the moment because winning breeds confidence. We seem to be playing good football and are doing the right things, but we need to start putting the chances away. We have played well in each of our last few games, but not came away with the results that our play has deserved.” Gordon revealed how the whole dressing room were extra-determined to put right their recent run of results at Livingston last week before the game fell foul of the weather and he admits they are now hoping to take their frustrations out on Raith Rovers this weekend in another competitive clash with the Fifers.

He said: “It was highly frustrating and no one likes to see games getting postponed, but I can understand why it was off. We are in the position now though where we are left to stew on what has gone before. I felt we were well prepared to put that right against Livingston, but now we just have to re-focus our attentions on Raith Rovers.

“I believe we are capable of getting points from every game we play in so we must look to pick up the three points in this one. Raith are a decent side and there are no easy games in this league. We have played them a number of times over the past two seasons and the games always tend to be very tight so I expect a tough match once again.

“There is obviously the likes of Calum Elliot and Kevin Moon there, who we all know very well, but we have played against most of the players before so we know what to expect. We believe we have it in us to get the victory and so hopefully we will.” The pitch at the Indodrill Stadium was once again heavily criticised following the 1-0 defeat to Rangers, and the 29-year-old says his side must look to take advantage at some of the team’s discomfort on the surface.

The Wasps skipper has caught the attention of a number of clubs in the SPFL Premiership this season with his excellent displays, but insists he is fully focused on his role at Alloa at the moment.

Gordon added: “I am flattered to be linked with other clubs and it means that I must be doing something right. I will obviously take that as a compliment, but I am just focused on continuing to do my best for Alloa Athletic.

“A lot of teams don’t like coming to Alloa and that can only be a good thing for us, but we need to start taking advantage of that. I don’t see the problem with the pitch myself.”
