NEW Alloa goalkeeper Scott Gallacher is delighted to be reunited with Jack Ross after working closely with him previously at Hearts.

The Motherwell native came through the youth system at Murray Park with Rangers and had previous experience on loan to Cowdenbeath, Airdrie and Forfar Athletic, but now he is desperate to make his make for Alloa in the SPFL Championship.

The 26-year-old became Jack Ross' first new signing at the club following his departure from the Tynecastle club by mutual consent last Monday, and admits he is delighted to be reunited with his former coach.

Gallacher told Advertiser sport: "I am delighted to be here at Alloa and the chance to come and play games was a big attraction for me. I have suffered sitting on the sidelines for a few years now at my previous clubs and while the experience there has been amazing for me, I am just desperate to play games and make my mark. I can see why Jack has had such a good influence here already. He was always a really positive guy at Hearts and it is great to be able to link back up with him again. He has always been such a relatable guy and so I think he fits the bill here very well.

"The Championship is still a very competitive league and an exciting one to play in, but I am aware that we need to try and get some points on the board quickly. I knew Jack from my time with Hearts, he is an excellent coach and his training is excellent so it was an easy decision to come and work with him again. I never really got a look in at Hearts and it is quite frustrating to train hard every week, but then be sat watching on a Saturday. I want to be playing football so hopefully I can do that here and try my best to help the team to climb the table."

Gallacher admits the abandonment of the Greenock Morton match last weekend just as the Wasps were on the brink of a crucial 1-0 win left the players gutted, but he believes it is a sure fire sign that they can still escape from the relegation zone at the foot of the SPFL Championship.

He said: "It was a wee bit of a disappointment for us not to get the win because of the weather conditions, but we know now that if we put on the performance that we did there then we can certainly get the win in the rematch. The save in the second half was just a reaction, but I was delighted to get it round the post. I definitely believe we can get out of our current predicament. I wouldn't have signed here if I didn't believe that and now I just can't wait to get into it and do my bit for the team. If you look at the match as a whole, we really dominated it. I think I only had the one save to make so that is credit to the team performance that we put in. Right from the defence to the attackers we were excellent and it is just unlucky that the match was called off. We have a great bunch of lads here who are all confident in their own abilities and we are confident that we can keep this good run going."

The former Rangers trainee is anticipating a difficult afternoon as he heads to Palmerston Park with his new side to face a formidable Queen of the South side.

Gallacher added: "Queen of the South is always a tough venue to go and win. The Astro pitch there is a bit different from our own so we have to adapt to that, but if we play like we did here then there is no reason we can't get something from that one."
