Fife Southern RFC 1st XV...7
Alloa RFC 2nd XV.........45

AN ALLOA Development side made the short trip to Rosyth for Saturday’s BT Caledonian league Division 3 Midlands (South) opening match.

On a lovely afternoon for open rugby, the visitors were on top in the opening exchanges and scored 4 tries to no reply to post a half time score of 0-26.

The second period was more evenly contested with the physical Fife forwards retaining the ball well and they scored a well worked try after 60 minutes.

However, any thoughts of a comeback were swiftly quashed as Alloa ran in another three scores for a well-deserved opening victory.

The development side face neighbours, Bannockburn this Saturday at Earlsfield – 3pm KO.

Meanwhile the 1st XV travel to face Harris Academy FP in what has been a delayed start to their BT Caledonia League Division 1 return.

This is due to the last minute league withdrawal of newly promoted Deeside RFC who were due to make the trip last Saturday to Earlsfield for the opening league fixture. Their place has been taken by Aberdeen Wanderers RFC.

Alloa will be hoping to get off to a winning start. However, Harris will undoubtedly prove to be tough opposition as the Dundee side ran Alloa close in last year’s Division 2 and were deservedly promoted as runners up.

Kick off at Elliott Road is for 3pm.

Hillfoots 1st XV.......33
Kinross................12

Hillfoots made the short trip to Kinross and got their league campaign off to a great start with a bonus point win.

Hillfoots dominated the opening part of the game and were only denied a couple of scores through some stout defending by the homeside.

New boy Danny Ross eventually broke the deadlock, showing good speed and strength. Kinross rallied at this and had their best spell of pressure, resulting in a converted score.

Hillfoots went back on the offensive and were rewarded with a penalty try after the referrees' patience ran out with Kinross' persistent infringments.

Callan McSherry extended the lead, stealing the ball on the halfway and outstripping the home defence. Kinross pulled a score back just before half time.

Half time 19-12

The second half was a rather dour affair with numerous mistakes creeping into the game.

Once again 'Foots dominated possession and territory but were allowing themselves to be turned over at the breakdown. Duncan Arthur settled the nerves, weaving his way over on the 60th min.

Ten minutes later head coach Ian Hamilton picked up his first score for the club, crashing over from close range.

Gregor Manson kicked four conversions; Callan McSherry was named man of the match.

All in all a good performance and plenty to build on. Panmure are next week's opponents at Tillicoultry with a 3pm kick off.
