Alloa 1st XV............12
Glenrothes 1st XV...12

BT Caledonia League, Division 1

ALLOA fought out a tense draw with old rivals Glenrothes with the result in the balance right through to the death.

Any signs of the of a negative reaction to Alloa's first league defeat the previous week in Aberdeen were quickly put aside as the home side opened the match very much on the front foot.

Their scrum was typically strong and their line out, which had been an area of concern of late, functioned very smoothly.

There was no sign of missing the first up tackle this week and it was no surprise when the home side took the lead.

Glasgow student Tim Tabatabaie crossed for the opening try converted by Alan Keir.

Alloa could and should have added to their lead but too often the ball failed to go to hand and the half-time score remained at 7-0.

An Alan Keir try took his side further clear but two rapid fire tries from Glens levelled the scores.

There were times in the second half when Alloa were hanging on, struggling to clear their lines and indeed Glens could have nicked the match in the closing minutes but failed to convert a straightforward penalty shot at goal.

he game then finished tied and on the balance of play then this was probably just about right.

Alloa can take a great deal from this match, bouncing back from a 50 point reverse at Gordonians against a Glenrothes side who themselves had scored fifty plus points in their Fife derby against Dunfermline the week before.

Alan Keir was deservedly awarded the J & M Builders man of the match.

Alloa travel to Forfar to take on Strathmore on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
