SAUCHIE midfielder David Morrison launched a scathing attack on some of his teammates after they were hammered by Bonnyrigg Rose on Saturday.

Stand-in skipper Morrison admitted he was embarrassed by his side's 5-0 loss at New Dundas Park, which left Sauchie's season threatening to peter out.

And he blasted the efforts of some of his fellow players, claiming they simply gave up against the runaway league leaders.

Morrison told Advertiser Sport: "To be perfectly honest some boys are not good enough for this level. There was a lack of desire and it was poor all round.

"Bonnyrigg are a good side and they're going to win the league for a reason. But if you lose a goal you can't just throw in the towel. You have got to be switched on all the time because you are playing against clever players.

"We didn't apply ourselves after the goals and we were very, very poor defensively."

Morrison reckons silly mistakes undid Sauchie's positive start to the game, and admitted the performance was a long way off the high standards they have set over the course of the season.

He said: "In the first 20 minutes we actually managed the game and did quite well, but after that we were just not switched on.

"We were letting runners go and not marking properly, and to be honest I think it's a lack of experience which has let us down.

"Coming out after half time we started quite well again despite being two goals down, but we gave away another cheap goal and after that some of the boys chucked it.

"Our mistakes made it easy for them, and after that some of us just gave up. That's what led to the high score-line. It was so poor."

The midfielder is keen to avoid another heavy defeat when his side host Bonnyrigg in their final match of the season on Wednesday evening, and he urged the squad to come out fighting in an effort to finish their season on a high.

Morrison said: "If you get beaten convincingly in the last game of the season there is a long time to wait before your next game. You don't have a game the week after to go and rectify it, so it can be a sore few weeks.

"The season is coming to an end and we can't wait for it to be over to be honest. But you have got to keep playing right to the end of the season.

"We have got Bonnyrigg again on Wednesday and we can't let them run over the top of us again. We need to come out with a bit of fight."
