Caledonia Regional Shield

HILLFOOTS travelled the long road to Ellon with a much-depleted squad at the weekend.

A mixture of holidays and injuries from the tough win over Alloa left the Clacks men short.

Ellon arrived with a near-to-full-strength team and it showed straight from the kick off.

The home side immediately established dominance with middle field runners punching holes at will, and an offload game that suited the dry conditions.

Hillfoots again had lost the toss and were playing in a sharp wind, which made gaining territory very difficult for the new half back partnership of Jamieson and captain for the day McMurdo.

Ellon played a very quick game and ran in numerous scores against Hillfoots.

In truth, it was a very one-sided contest, but the men from Tillicoutry kept plugging away.

Their only reward came as a try in the second half as Ross Kinnear touched down in the corner, after good work from Gilchrist and Aitken.

McMurdo was very unlucky to not convert as his excellent attempt from the touchline hit the bar.

Hillfoots finished the game with only 14 on the pitch as injuries took their toll on the squad.

Next week, the Clacks side will hope to find a return to winning form as they travel to Blairgowrie on league business.
