Hillfoots......................14
Glenrothes..................31

Tennent's Caledonia Region League, Division 1

HILLFOOTS welcomed Glenrothes to Tillicoultry on Saturday.

It was a busy afternoon for the club with the main club sponsor, Tillicoultry Quarries, presenting the squad with a new set of strips before the game.

The club are delighted to have had the backing of Tillicoultry Quarries for more than 15 years and are looking forward to many more years of partnership.

The club's other shirt sponsors are U-Gym, The Inn at Dollar and Internorm.

Hillfoots kicked-off on a heavy pitch and most of the early exchanges took place between the two 22s.

Gradually Glenrothes exerted control and after the first quarter had crossed the home whitewash twice and added both conversions for a 14-0 advantage.

Finally, 'Foots started to get their phase play working. Some decent build-up play by the forwards led to Duncan Arthur bursting through a gap in midfield to scamper under the posts from about 20 yards out. Fraser Christie added the extras.

Hillfoots were playing up the hill in the second half but were too sloppy with ball-in-hand and were making simple errors despite Glenrothes not offering anything particularly special in defence or attack.

Two further tries and a penalty in the third quarter effectively won the game for the Fifers as the home team tired.

There was time for a decent burst up the left wing from burly powerhouse Paul Slade who slipped the ball to inside to Alex Cameron for a nice try, but it was too little too late.

Next week Hillfoots make the short trip over the Forth to Grangemouth for 3pm kick-off.
