CLACKMANNAN CCC First XI slipped to a narrow defeat away to Linlithgow First XI on Saturday.

The victory for the West Lothian side avenged a win for the Clacks in last week's return to competitive cricket when they cruised to victory over Linlithgow's Second XI at the Arns.

There was to be no repeat of the success this time around, however, as the home side edged the tightly fought contest.

Batting first on a damp track, Clacks lost two early wickets before Graeme Anderson (24) and Keith Hefer (34) steadied the ship.

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

After Hefer was stopped with the score at 63-3, wickets fell pretty quickly.

A quickfire 24 off 19 balls by Ally Band was enough to help Clacks to a total of 102 all out from their 30 overs.

In response, the hosts collapsed to 16-4 with Tariq Mehboob (final figures 2-4) doing the early damage.

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

However, Linlithgow opener, Kevin Stump, carried his bat with a score of 45 to bring Linlithgow home to a five wicket victory, with an over to spare.

Clackmannan's Second XI match away to Broomhall CC was cancelled due to rain.

The cricket club is keen to welcome new members following their return to action.
