ALLY MCCOIST was 'thrilled' to see Alfredo Morelos move to the brink of beating his Rangers record after he inspired Steven Gerrard's side to victory over Lech Poznan.
The Colombian moved level with McCoist on 21 European goals for the Light Blues as he headed home a cross from Borna Barisic to clinch a crucial Group D win.
Morelos will have a chance to claim the record outright when Rangers face Benfica next month and Ibrox legend McCoist said: “I am going to tell you now, he deserved to be on the bench after his recent performances.
“What a goal it was and he was really, really brave and the Barasic ball was brilliant.
“He deserves enormous credit because that is a fantastic scoring record.
“I am thrilled and I am delighted because it was a goal that Rangers needed, no matter who scored I was always going to be pleased. “Morelos will beat that record because it is there to be broken and he will deserved to beat it when he does do it.”
