SAUCHIE have "a lot of hard work to do" before their Scottish Cup against Dunipace this Saturday despite beating them 3-1 at the weekend.

Goals from David Cross, Brian Morgan and Sam Davidson saw Fraser Duncan’s men progress to the next round of the Challenge Cup but the manager doesn’t want his side to get complacent.

He said: “The two games against Dunipace were always going to be tough, we knew that, but I wasn’t too impressed with the performance on Saturday, I didn’t think we played good football.

“I think we seemed to start the game well, the first 10 or 15 minutes. We’ve come off the park having won a cup tie 3-1 and looked in control for periods of the match but we just didn’t play well.

“The level of performance just wasn’t good enough but we still won the game, that’s the most important bit and we’re obviously delighted to be going through. It leads us up nicely for the big one this weekend.”

Duncan continued: “I think the Crossgates game was a game of two halves, obviously the first 45 we were really poor, the second half I thought we were excellent and the score didn’t reflect that.

“On Saturday there we’ve not played well, nothing came off for us, we were trying to play football and it just wasn’t working for us, we were making the wrong decisions, our decision making was so off it was unbelievable, we didn’t defend well at times and we looked all over the place.

“Definitely it was better than the Crossgates game because of the result at the end of the day but we definitely need an improvement for this week.”

Asked if the performance at the weekend gave him any thoughts for his team selection on Saturday, Duncan said: “We have got a couple of injuries at the minute, a few niggles and knocks we’re trying to get cleared up and if I’m being honest I didn’t have everybody to choose from on Saturday so my hands were tied a wee bit when it came to team selection but we managed to clear a few of them up and rest a few on Saturday so hopefully we can get some of they boys involved this week.

“The guys had to work hard on Saturday to get the result, maybe the performances haven’t been as good as what they wanted them to be but they still worked hard to win the game and gave us everything they’ve got.

“It’s a clean slate again this week, this week’s massive for us, the Scottish Cup tie is huge. This is the big one, we can’t go in with the attitude of we won last week so we’ll win this week, it’s not going to be like that.

"Dunipace will come here, they’ll be fired right up for it and want a bit of revenge so we need to make sure we’re up for it as well.

“This is the big one, this is the one that – if I’m being honest – both teams want to progress through so it’s a great opportunity for us but we’ve got to make sure we get things right and the players know that as well, we’ve got a lot of hard work to do before we’re ready for the game in the two nights of training this week and make sure we’re prepared for Saturday.”
