IT WAS a frustrating away trip for Sauchie Juniors last weekend as they travelled to Ainsley Park to take on Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale.

Sauchie took an early lead from a penalty kick after the Hutchy defender was lucky not to be sent off following a challenge on forward Ross Kavanagh.

The lead didn’t last long as the home team equalised which unfortunately set the tone of the match with Sauchie taking the lead twice more only to lose it shortly after.

A goal in the 85th minute seemed to all but secure the three points for Sauchie, only for Hutchy Vale to score in the final minutes of the game.

Whilst the 3-3 result was disappointing for Sauchie, a highlight was the debut of Lucas Williamson, a right back who has recently joined on loan from East Fife FC until the end of the season.

Whilst initially brought in as right back cover, he was handed a surprise start when Ross Hutchison had to drop out from the squad due to illness.

Speaking of his debut, Lucas felt he had a positive performance and looks forward to adding to the team in future games.

He said: “It was a tough game especially with the weeks off that we’ve had. We only managed to train again on Thursday night.

"It was disappointing to concede in the last minute but there were plenty of positives to take from today.

“My game is attacking full back – I aim to keep the ball, get balls into the box and defend the goal at the same time.

“We need to go in and get training this week and have a strong week. We’ll work on what we weren’t good at today and take Penicuik as it comes.”

Sauchie manager Fraser Duncan was pleased with Lucas’ performance, praising the debutant as a real highlight in an otherwise poor team performance.

He said: “Lucas got a last-minute debut with the absence of Ross Hutchison so we just flung him straight in there.

“He did well, I feel he’s good on the ball, comfortable with it, showed a lot of quality today.

"He did well and he’s a good addition to the squad. Had a great start so, hopefully, that continues.”
