THE Central AC boys earned a superb victory in the under 12 superteams competition against 47 teams from throughout Scotland.

The competition tests teams of youngsters at running, jumping and throwing then finishes with a relay, with Central represented by Lewis Munro, Alfie Laing, Kyle McPake and Euan Robertson.

They started strongly in the 60m with Lewis running the fastest time out of 93 boys with 8.63s; Alfie coming 5th with 8.97s; with Euan coming in at 9.70s; and Kyle recording a time of 10.03s.

The shot saw personal bests all round with Kyle furthest at 6.01m, 7th furthest on the day; Euan threw 5.48m; Alfie 5.07m; and Lewis 4.69m.

The long jump saw Lewis jump the 3rd furthest of the day with 4.28m and Alfie 10th furthest with 3.89m. Euan jumped a season's best at 3.42m and Kyle a PB with 3.35m.

These performances gave the boys a good lead going into the final 4x200m relay event.

A strong run from Springburn Harriers challenged the Central team’s lead but they got the baton round safely with the 2nd fastest time and did enough to hang on for the win.

It is thought that this is the first time Central have won the superteams since the girls team won the inaugural event in 2009. This team included Kathryn Gillespie who went on to represent Great Britain placing 5th at the European Junior Championships in the 1500m in 2015 and is still competing for the club at a high level as a senior.

The Central boys B team also performed well, with personal bests all round for Hugh Thomas, Jack Campbell, Matthew Oven and Oliver McDonald finishing 17th place overall.

Further good performances came from the girls teams who also set new best performances. Amy Drysdale, Bella Milligan, Iona Clark and Susanna Horsburgh placed 19th overall. And Kayleigh Clifford, Olivia Denholm, Rachel Duncan and Zara Hector placed 39th overall.
