IT IS A WORRYING time for Alloa Athletic Women’s team as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to Cumbernauld Colts.

There were plenty of positives on display through the match, but this was not enough to stop Alloa succumbing to their third consecutive league loss.

Alloa have been hindered this season by having results chalked off due to teams folding, losing a total of six points in the process.

This result sees Alloa hovering at second bottom of the table, with a big response needed if they are to move up the table in the coming weeks.

Hayley Preece told Advertiser Sport what needs to change to allow the Wasps to get back to winning ways.

She said: “The game didn’t go very well – we previously beat this team 6-0 so this was a team that we should have beat. We were really disappointed with the result.

“It was a frustrating result. I think we’ve been in a bit of a turbulent time since Allan [Salvona] left.

“We spent a lot of time after the game looking at what went wrong and where each of us could improve in our individual performances.

“We think we might have a bit of chemistry missing between areas of the team that we need to work on.

"We know that we’ve got some really talented players in the team and we know that we can be performing at a much higher level.

“We need to get back to how we were at the start of the season.”

Alloa started this season off as the team to beat, registering three wins in a row before having results removed due to teams folding.

Since then, the Wasps have struggled to register wins but have been scoring goals high up the pitch consistently.

“There’s no way for us to improve apart from working hard in training sessions,” Hayley added.

“We’re in a position where last weekend, we really thought we’d be able to turn things around and get a result.

“Amongst ourselves, we’ve said we need 100 per cent commitment from the full team and knuckle down. We need to hold our heads high and try our best.”
