ALLOA ATHLETIC Women’s team has announced their new permanent manager.

Charles Dignan has officially been revealed to be taking over in the dugout as of next season, replacing Allan Salvona, who left in February.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Dignan said he was looking forward to getting started with the team as soon as he comes in.

He said: “I think it’s fantastic, I think it’s a great opportunity.

"I think Alloa are a club that, with the right backing and with the players able to get behind the vision, there’s definitely a trajectory there that the club could go on.

“I think there’s a bright future for the club, to be honest.”

Dignan joins the club with over a decade’s worth of experience in football coaching, starting off as a goalkeeping coach within youth academies.

He moved to Thornton Hibs in the junior leagues for a few years before working his way up to an assistant manager position.

In 2021, he made the move over to women’s football and became an assistant manager for East Fife Ladies. He was part of the coaching team that guided the team to promotion from the Championship into the SWPL.

Dignan is no stranger to lifting silverware and hopes to bring that to Alloa Athletic.

“In that time, I’ve had a promotion, won a Fife and Lothians Cup,” he added. “Throughout that time, there have been various individual honours for my players as we’ve went on that journey.

“I’ve won trophies in both the men’s and women’s game.

“For me, my expectation for next season is we want to go ahead and win the League and get us in the playoff position.

“It’s no easy feat to win any league – and it’s not just about the players and the management coming together, I’m really looking for support from local businesses as well to get behind us.

“I’m hoping for the community to back us and support us as well.”

Dignan officially takes over at the start of pre-season on June 19.

Interim manager Sean Black will continue to be in charge for the remaining two games of this season.
