ROSS KAVANAGH has been awarded Sauchie’s Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season, as chosen by Advertiser Sport.

Kavanagh has been vital in leading the line for Sauchie this season, scoring 41 goals across all competitions throughout the year.

The striker said he was delighted to pick up this award, and looks forward to helping the team next season.

“I really appreciate winning this,” Kavanagh said. “This is my first time playing a full season in this league.

“I’m really happy with how I’ve performed this season and credit to my teammates for helping me get to that position where I’m able to score goals.

“I’m really happy with myself for scoring 41 goals and it’s a new target that I’ve set myself for next season.

“I don’t know how hard it’s going to be but my new goal is to beat that.

“Thanks again for choosing me for this award, it’s very kind.”

Sauchie remained title challengers throughout the year, competing against eventual winners Linlithgow Rose in the East of Scotland Premier League.

Domestically, Sauchie remained in contention for two of the cups, reaching the quarter finals of the League Cup and the final of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

Kavanagh got his 41st goal during the final, scoring Sauchie’s first goal in a 3-2 defeat to University of Stirling earlier this month.

Assistant manager Darren Cummings was quick to heap praise on the in-form striker, commending him on an impressive goal tally.

He said: “Kav has been outstanding. 41 goals is a great achievement.

“He’s worked his tail off and hasn’t stopped, he’s been consistent for us and scored some big goals.

“I’m absolutely buzzing for him – he’s sharp and he’s deserved everything he’s got this season.”
