ABBIE TROTTER has been awarded Alloa Athletic Women's Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season, as chosen by Advertiser Sport.

Trotter captained her side to a fourth-place finish after what has been described as a season of ups and downs.

The skipper said she was delighted to pick up the award, confirming she has already signed on to the team for next season.

"I'm pretty proud about that," Trotter said. "It's pretty nice to be recognised for the work I put in on and off the pitch.

"In terms of both personally and for the team, it's been up and down this season. We've lacked a bit of consistency then had a bit of a dip in the middle.

"We finished strong which is the key thing and we grabbed fourth place which we were delighted with.

"It's something that we look at as a little bit of a disappointment, I think we could've finished a bit further up but it gives us that motivation for next season.

"Personally, I think I lacked a bit of consistency in my performances but overall, I think it was pretty good."

Trotter has signed on for the 2023-24 season and will be joining the team in welcoming Charles Dignan to the Recs, who takes over at the start of pre-season this week.

"We're looking forward to it," Trotter added. "We think it'll be a good season. A new manager has come in and he's sounding positive and we're all looking forward to getting on board with him.

"Time will tell but we want to finish much higher in the table but we want to finish in that top spot and playoff positions to get into League One.

"We look forward to pre-season starting this week."
