SCOTT TAGGART has been awarded Alloa’s Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season, as chosen by Advertiser Sport.

The defender was monumental for the Wasps last season, playing a vital role in getting the team to the playoff spots.

Despite being hindered by a number of injuries over the season, Taggart’s performances earned him plaudits from fans, journalists and players alike.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Taggart reflected positively on last season and hopes to perform to that standard again this season.

“I’m delighted to pick up this award,” Taggart said. “It was a personal note for myself, I felt as if it was a good season.

“As a club, I think we did well and I performed pretty well throughout that. I’m delighted to pick up any award.

“I think any player knows when they’re doing okay and lucky enough for myself, I thought I was doing alright.

“The gaffer put a lot of faith in me and no matter where he moved me around the pitch, I just tried my best in every position and felt as if I did okay throughout the season.

“It’s always nice to hear you’re doing well but the main thing for me is winning on a Saturday. It makes it just that bit better when you do okay and get the three points as well.”

Pre-season at Alloa kicked off last week, with the club confirming 7 new signings to join the list of retained players at the club.

Taggart has signed on for another season and hopes to keep putting in strong performances to make the Wasps a formidable force.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Taggart added. “It’s like any pre-season – come in, work hard and gel the new guys in.

“There’s a good core of guys still here and we know how the manager works, he’s recruited other boys to come in and help us as well.

“This is the start of a new season but I just need to focus on trying to perform as best I can this season and hopefully we’ll go one step further.

“It’s going to be a hard task but we’ve got plenty of new guys to gel into the squad and hopefully we’ll make the Recs a hard place to come to.”
