A WHOLE host of Alloa legends will be returning to the Recs this weekend for a testimonial match celebrating one of the club’s greatest servants.

Kevin Cawley’s Testimonial will be held this Saturday at 3pm, celebrating his eleven seasons in a Wasps shirt, with an twelfth on the way.

Over the past few weeks, the organisers have been revealing some of the big names confirmed to be taking part in the legends team, which will go up against the current Alloa squad.

Leading the team will be Jim Goodwin, who served as a player-manager on the team from 2016-2019.

Craig McDowall will line up in goals. Confirmed defenders are Calum Waters, Michael Doyle, Mark Docherty, Frank McKeown, Jason Marr, Goodwin and Pat Scullion.

The legends midfield will consists of Darren Young, Eddie Ferns, Adam Brown, Ross McCord, Ryan McCord and Graeme Holmes.

Confirmed names up top include Robbie Winters, Liam Buchanan and Greig Spence, well remembered for making four spells at the club. More names are set to be announced.

Cawley signed for Alloa in 2011 and spent four years at the club before moving to Dumbarton. After serving only one season there, he resigned for the Wasps ahead of the 2016-17 season and has been a mainstay in the team ever since.

In an interview with The Wasps Nest Podcast, Cawley reflected on his time at Alloa and said he was excited for the testimonial.

He said: “I am looking forward to the testimonial this afternoon on what I am sure will be a good occasion.

“There have been many highs during my time at Alloa, such as winning the league (2011-12 Third Division) with an 8-1 victory.

“That day was my first bity of silverware as a player and that was brilliant.

“Obviously, with the playoff games that we have won, like Dunfermline 3-0 victory, and staying up are the best moments and memories I have had from my time at Alloa.”

Over his eleven seasons at Alloa, Cawley has played with a vast array of different players – from the team when he first signed to the current squad today.

He added: “The players that I have played with over the years, the changing rooms and camaraderie with everyone have been great too.

“I think that’s why a lot of players have always stayed at Alloa. Oy will be good to see all the boys that I have played with over the years for the Legends team.

“The best thing about being at Alloa though is the whole community of the club.

“Everyone is always going in the same direction, and they want to see you succeed. When we do and we get that achievement and see their faces at the end, that is the best bit about it all.

“I would say, for me personally, they’ve taken me in as one of their own and I have always been grateful for that.

“To the fans, I know it isn’t the biggest supporting club in the country but they are your die-hard fans that always turn up and it is a credit to them and a thank you to them all as well.”

Organisers have also released limited edition Kevin Cawley’s Testimonial pin badges, available to buy from the club’s website for £5 each.

Tickets are available for the testimonial from the club website also, ranging in price from £5 for under 16s and £10 for adults.
