ALLOA WOMEN’S unbeaten run in the League continued last Sunday as they fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Gleniffer Thistle.

The Wasps visited the Paisley side looking to maintain their unbeaten record against a side that had dropped down a league this season.

The game proved to be a tale of two halves for Alloa, who started the match poorly but ended by far the better side.

Wasps gaffer Charles Dignan rued a slow start from his players, who grew into the game as the match progressed.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, he said: “It was a very poor first half from us. We started very slow and we weren’t tight enough to the opposition.

“This was allowing them to not just have space on the ball but allow the opposite players on the ball to receive the ball so we’re not getting tight enough to stop the pass and stop them from playing.

“That allowed them to control the game but there weren’t really any opportunities from either team apart from the goal they scored.

“Then, we missed a one-on-one just before half-time and we finished the first half much better than we started.”

Alloa went into the break 1-0 down, with Dignan and his staff reiterating to the team that they needed more movement and to stop passing needlessly.

The Wasps came out into the second half much more improved, working their way into good positions and creating good chances early on.

Dignan continued: “We had one or two great chances when we started the second half, but to be fair to Gleniffer, they defended very well.

“They had a couple of experienced defenders at the back that I thought were very composed and defended well.

“But when they tried to play out, we started dominating the midfield and we defended very well, with Molly [Williams] picking up player of the match.

“We changed our formation and had a tactical change and we ended up getting a goal out of it. We finished the better team but just couldn’t get that winner.

“All in all, disappointed with the majority of the first half but pleased with the second half.”

Alloa’s next match will be against Cumbernauld Colts.
