ALLOA ATHLETIC WOMEN have announced that manager Charles Dignan has left the club.

The gaffer confirmed he was leaving the club in a statement published by Alloa on Tuesday, November 28.

Dignan will be taking up a position as manager of the Dunfermline Athletic Women’s team, with assistant manager Gregg McSwiggan also departing.

The statement said: “The club has recently been notified that Charles Dignan and his assistant Gregg McSwiggan are to leave their management and coaching roles with the Alloa Athletic Women’s 1st team.

“The club would like to thank Charles for his focus and dedication in professionalising the squad which has shown continuous improvement under his management.

“Charles cited the time and distances travelling every week from his home at East Fife as a significant factor in deciding to leave the club for a new position with Dunfermline FC.

“Both Charles and Gregg leave with the club’s very best wishes for the future.”

Dignan leaves the Wasps with an impressive record in charge of the club, maintaining an outstanding league record that sees them remain unbeaten.

The former gaffer also used his extensive experience coaching women’s football to draw in a number of transfer targets, enhancing and expanding the squad.

Dignan’s last game for Alloa was the 2-2 draw with Clydebank, which rounded off their League Cup campaign.

The club confirmed that the search for a new manager is already underway, with the Women’s team now having a break until the new year.

The statement continued: “The selection of a new management team will begin immediately with a view of having them in place for the first competitive game in mid-January 2024.”
