ALLY ROY continued his excellent goal scoring record for Alloa as he came off the bench to score his fifth goal in just seven appearances for the Wasps.

The East Kilbride loanee had been on the bench for Alloa’s last three outings, his last appearance coming in the Scottish Cup third round tie against Dunbar.

Despite scoring four in his first four appearances for the club, Roy had been consigned to the bench as Andy Graham preferred Kilmarnock loanee Bobby Wales as a lone striker.

An injury to Steven Buchanan in the first half of Alloa’s eventual 3-1 win over Edinburgh City saw Roy make his first appearance since November, with the striker picking up a goal as well.

Speaking to Advertiser Sport, Roy said he had found it frustrating having to wait, but was happy to take his opportunity to score.

“It’s frustrating,” Roy said. “Everyone wants to play every second of every game and I’m no different to that.

“It’s frustrating not playing and it’s hard to take at times but at the end of the day, the manager has his decisions to make and you’ve got to respect that as a player.

“There’s a lot of boys in there in the exact same position that want to play as many minutes as possible.

“Thankfully, I was able to get some minutes today and get a goal on top of that which is a nice feeling.”

Alloa hosted league strugglers Edinburgh City at the Recs on Saturday, looking to extend their unbeaten run.

Bobby Wales got the Wasps on a good footing as the first half came to an end before Edinburgh equalised through Ouzy See after the break.

A deflected shot from Kevin Cawley reinstated Alloa’s lead with just a few minutes to go and Roy popped up with a superb goal to kill off the game.

This now puts Roy on five goals, tied with Conor Sammon as the club's joint top scorer for this season and in only seven appearances.

Roy explained that it was a performance that could certainly be improved on, but all that mattered was Alloa got the important three points.

“It wasn’t the best performance or game,” Roy added. “I think we can all agree on that but the most important thing was to get three points on the board.

“Thankfully, we got it late on but all that matters is we got three points, we did that and now we move onto next week.

“It’s always good to go score goals, it’s the best feeling you can get on a football pitch, I love doing it and I’m glad I can help the team doing that.

“It doesn’t matter who scores it, whether it’s myself, Bobby or Kev today, as long as it counts towards three points for us, we move on from that.

“Being up the top end of pitch is classed as your job sometimes, but we need to be doing more in a game than just scoring goals.

“It’s always nice to score them but the most important thing is contributing to the team and getting three points.

“Most importantly, we got the three points and we move onto Queens next week.”
