ANDY GRAHAM provided an injury update on the Alloa squad after several players were forced off against Motherwell.

Alloa certainly didn’t have their troubles to seek in terms of injuries, but their list was only added to during their 3-1 loss against the Steelmen.

Cammy O’Donnell was brought down as he chased a ball in the Motherwell box, beaten to it by Bevis Mugabi, with the youngster going over Mugabi’s knee.

He appeared to struggle with a limp throughout the first half, initially shaking it off before being replaced at half time Euan Deveney.

Steven Hetherington was also replaced at half time, with Miko Virtanen coming into the side, initially feared to be a more serious injury.

In the second half, Taggart was caught during the penalty incident, with the Wasps gaffer confirming he had suffered a deep cut in his ankle.

He said: “Taggs came off with a big gash on his ankle from the penalty, so hoping that’s just a few stitches and nothing too serious.

“Stevie Hetherington’s, it’s looking a wee bit. If he’s coming off, you know it’s serious, his knee doesn’t look great but we need to give it 48 hours to see it settle down and see how it swells.

“He’s the only one that’s the main concern in terms of long term but it’s frustrating.”

On a more brighter note, Alloa’s bench was given a boost with the returns of Steven Buchanan and Tochukwu Ogayi from injury.

Buchanan was forced off during Alloa’s game against Edinburgh with a hamstring issue, while Ogayi had been missing since Alloa visited Falkirk.

Coming off of the bench, Luke Donnelly made his first Alloa appearance since Edinburgh City in September.

Donnelly’s return will be a big boost to Alloa’s attacking options, particularly with Brad Rodden leaving to sign for Stenhousemuir at the start of the window.

Graham expanded on his players returning to the squad in his post-match interview with WaspTV.

He said: “We didn’t have our troubles to seek and even on the bench, Steven Buchanan didn’t train all week, but I thought it was important that he was part of it.

“I think that’s a big thing for younger players to be part of the squad when you come to places like this so that’s another one we were never going to put on just because of the grass-heavy pitch.

“We’re hoping he’ll be okay for next week if he can get a full week’s training. David Devine maybe another couple weeks away for him.

“We certainly don’t have our troubles to seek in the injury front but that’s why we’ve got a squad and it’s down to players now to come in and stake their claim.

“I’ve said that to them all along that if they come in and do well, then that’s how football works and they’ll keep their place and it’s down to them to step up to the plate and do that.”
