ALLOA ATHLETIC has announced the signing of St Mirren youngster Ethan Sutherland on loan.

The 17-year-old has been brought in to provide vital cover on the left flank, particularly with the injury to Euan Deveney and the departure of Josh Debayo.

The club confirmed the loan deal with a statement on Thursday evening, reading: “We’re delighted to confirm the loan signing of St Mirren youngster Ethan Sutherland.

“The 17-year-old shone in the Buddies pre-season fixtures terrorising from the left flank and was awarded his first senior appearances against Montrose and Arbroath in the Viaplay Cup group stage.

“The youth prospect will continue his development with the Wasps for the remainder of the season starting with Saturday’s game against Annan.”

Sutherland is the first new face to join Alloa’s squad during the transfer window, with the only other incomer being the continuation of Bobby Wales’ loan from Kilmarnock.

In terms of outgoings, Brad Rodden left early in the window to sign for League 2 fliers Stenhousemuir, while Josh Debayo departed to be closer to his family in England just a few days ago.

With Euan Deveney set to be out for up to nine months with a long term injury, Sutherland will slot in as essential cover down the left hand side.

Wasps gaffer Andy Graham added: “We’re delighted to have Ethan in to help the group.

“With the departure of Josh Debayo and a bad injury to Euan Deveney, we felt we had to strengthen the squad options on that left side and Ethan will provide that.”

Alloa face Annan Athletic away from home this Saturday at 3pm.
